Jewel Dunn’s River Resort Hotel
Jewel Dunn’s River Resort Adults Only Hotel
Location: Jamaica, Ocho Rios
Star Rating: 4
Board Levels: AI
Jewel Dunn’s River hits the nail on the head when it comes to tropical escapes. It’s right on a soft, sandy beach, and comes with a bumper line-up of restaurants and bars.
This place has Caribbean flair down to a tee. Inside, it’s a grand, colonial set-up, with patterned wingback chairs and green marble columns. Outside you’ll find tropical touches, like hammocks strung up in the gardens and palm trees curving above the terracotta-topped pool bars.
There’s a restaurant for nearly every day of the week here, and enough bars for you to come up with your own crawl. The whole place has an adults-only stamp, too, so everything’s tweaked for grown-ups.
Jewel Dunn’s River has a huge lagoon-like pool by the beach, plus a smaller pool which hosts jazz music at night. Both come with swim-up bars. There are six places you can eat – three are tailored for fine dining, and three stick to the simple stuff. Scuba diving, sailing and kayaking are top of the pile when it comes to watersports*. You’ll also find a pitch and putt course and six sports courts, plus a spa* and a gym*.
SPORTS & ACTIVITIES
Almost every sport involves the sea here. You can kayak*, sail* or take a mini-catamaran* out onto the turquoise waters. Go scuba diving* beneath the waves, and you’ll find a colour chart of tropical fish.
FOOD & DRINK
If fine dining’s your bag, you can pick from three top-drawer restaurants. There’s an Italian eatery, a Caribbean joint serving spicy Jamaican seafood, and an Oriental place which combines teppanyaki-style dishes with tableside entertainment.
HEALTH & BEAUTY
The treatment menu at the Radiant Spa* includes warm river stone massages and seaweed body wraps. You can also double up on relaxation with a couples’ massage, or book in for a facial, a manicure or a cut and colour.
Evening drinks are ramped up a notch at the Boardwalk Bar – a lamp-lit wooden jetty which pokes out into the Caribbean Sea. In the piano bar, you can work your way through the cocktail menu while musicians tinkle the ivories until the early hours.
The lagoon-like pool features a watery tribute to this hotel’s famous namesake, Dunn’s River Falls. A stream tumbles down rocky ledges into the pool, creating a scaled-down version of Jamaica’s splashy natural wonder.
Double rooms here come with a TV, Wi-Fi, air-conditioning and a balcony or terrace. You can choose a room with a garden view, a limited Mountain View or sea view. Premier double rooms are also available.
